Objectives

To equip participants with more in-depth understanding of psychology and the principles involved

To enhance the effectiveness of participants' practical skills and techniques through action-based training

Assessment Methods

Modules will be assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations depending on the inpidual module objectives.

Graduation 

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded with the Diploma in Psychology awarded by MDIS.

Applied Business Psychology

In this module students will learn the basics about psychological principles as applied to various aspects of business, including, but not limited to, organisational structure, leadership, motivating employees, and the international business climate from a psychological perspective.

Applied Marketing Psychology

In this module students learn the principles of psychology most applicable to marketing of products, services or intangibles, like image or self-promotion.

Psychology and Social Science Research

In this module students will learn the typical ways of "knowing" as articulated by Charles Sanders Peirce, and to contrast those typical ways with the methods of science in general. They will learn how Thomas Kuhn conceived of the processes of science, the general ethics of research in the social sciences, and they will be exposed to a basic orientation of Western methods of science in general and the particular methods of research investigations practised by the social and health-related sciences in particular.

Psychology of the Inpidual

In this module students will study the biological and psychological developmental sequences that are responsible for the uniqueness of inpiduals as well as the similarities among human beings. The influence of culture, ethnicity, family dynamics, education and experience on the development of the inpidual are core topics.

Psychology of Group Dynamics

Students will study the influence of the group on the behavior of the members of both in-groups and out-groups. The topics of this module include how the group influences conformity, compliance, obedience, attitude formation, aggression and prejudice.

Employee Assessment and Leadership Development

In this module students learn about the ways to assess and train employees, to cultivate leaders and to understand modern human resource departments.

Clinical and Health Psychology

This module emphasizes the cultural understanding of physical and mental illness, wellness and health. The course will examine mental health interventions strategies that focus on cultural, religious, and political sensitivities of the country. The emphasis is on common problems such as depression and anxiety, drug addiction and stress, not on major mental disorders.

Case Studies of Clinical Health and Organisational Psychology and Conflict Resolution

In this module students read, discuss and report on various case studies, applying all of the skills and knowledge gained from the previous modules over particular topics. The focus of the module is the application of previous knowledge to actual situations and each student will demonstrate that skill by formally presenting to the class at least two extensive case studies.

Graduation Project

The capstone of the Diploma sequence is an extensive written report that reviews the literature on an organisational psychology, clinical or health related topic of the students' choosing. The topic should be chosen in consultation with one or more of the student's professors in the Diploma sequence and guidance during the writing process should be available.
