HOW WILL I LEARN?
You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, laboratory practicals, mandatory work placement and independent study. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
A full Award is granted on passing the relevant eight components. You will be assessed throughout and at the end of the year. On successful completion of each component, you will be awarded a Pass, a Merit or a Distinction grade.
WHAT WE WOULD LIKE FROM YOU!
Applicants with a passion for working with animals, a willingness to work hard and a commitment to study. You will be responsible for securing an appropriate off site work placement before the beginning of the course.
CAREER/PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES
This award can act as a gateway into the animal industry. Dundalk IT will accept results from Animal Science Levels 5 & 6 combined as an entry requirement into Vet Nursing. Letterkenny IT will accept Animal Science Level 6 for Advanced Entry into year 2 of their Vet Nursing degree should places be available.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- QQI Award e.g. QQI Level 5 in Animal Science/Animal Care 5M2768
- Mature Students (over 21yrs) who may not have formal academic requirements but who have the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered. (RPL Recognition of Prior Learning)
