    Course Overview

    Nurses and other healthcare professionals looking to equip themselves with a comprehensive understanding of infectious disease control and prevention in hospital, social care and community settings

    The course examines key areas including microbiology, immunology, public health and communicable disease control. As well as learning about the nature of communicable disease and how to develop strategies for surveillance, control and prevention you will gain an understanding of the essential principles of research design.
    Although this course is ideally suited for Clinical Nurse Specialists in Infection Control, it may also be of value to other healthcare practitioners, including staff of health ministries, health departments, aid organisations and disease control agencies.

    Upon completion of ones Postgraduate Diploma (awarded after 120 credits) the university offers the opportunity for students to progress on to study for a full Masters (awarded after 180 credits).

    Entry requirements

    •  Applicants are usually registered nurses or health care professionals in full or part-time employment with a minimum of two years post-registration experience and access to a clinical microbiology department. 
    •  In addition, applicants normally have an Bachelors degree in a relevant or appropriate subject, or the equivalent from an internationally recognised institution.
    •  If one doesn’t meet the above entry requirements, but if the university thinks that the student has the potential to succeed on the PG Diploma Infection Control course, they will consider their application on its individual merits.
    •  If English is not the student’s first language, IELTS (Academic) 6.5 or equivalent is required.
