C# was designed for CLI/Common Language Infrastructure. This comprises an executable code and runtime environment enabling the use of numerous high-level languages on different computer platforms and architectures.The goal of C# is to represent the underlying Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) as precisely as possible. The bulk of the CLI framework's intrinsic types implement the value-types. A C# compiler is not required to target a CLR or create CIL or any other particular format because the Common Language Runtime (CLR), Common Intermediate Language (CIL), or any other specific format are not specified in the language specification.
