Palliative care emergencies encompass not only situations that are imminently life threatening, but also those that could result in impaired quality of life for the remainder of the patient's life, or for the family in their bereavement.
This workshop is designed to complement the Distance Learning Programme for Doctors and Nurses however the workshop is open to all doctors and nurses who want to learn more about palliative medical emergencies and caring for patients in the last days of life.
On completion of this workshop, participants will:
- Recognise a palliative emergency
- Understand the appropriate care and treatment for the palliative emergency as it presents
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of death approaching
- Assess and plan to accommodate patient’s needs during the terminal phase
This programme has Category 1 Approval, CEU’s Continuing Education Units from An Bord Altranais.
