Have you ever paid too much for a major purchase or felt taken advantage of by a salesperson? Did you ever make a large purchase and later realized that you should have bought a different product? Not properly preparing or knowing how to negotiate can cost you thousands of dollars. However, a little preparation and knowledge can ensure that you get what you want at a good price.
Hi, my name is Dr. Dean DiGregorio. I am a CPA, have a PhD in Accounting, and currently teach at a state university. After making a couple of costly negotiation mistakes early in my career, I decided to learn negotiation, persuasion, and personal selling skills. Knowing and successfully applying these skills has been valuable in both my personal and professional life. My goal is to help you learn the skills necessary to get what you want, and not be taken advantage of.
Negotiation: Buyer Side, 6 Steps to Get What You Want is a 30+ lecture course that will teach you how to successfully negotiate with both private parties and professional salespeople.
The first 3 steps cover the advance preparation critical for negotiation success.
Step 1 will ensure you get what you want and avoid a lot of unnecessary aggravation. In addition, specific buying criteria are provided and explained for products, houses, vehicles, jobs, businesses, and services.
Step 2 will give you confidence that you are making the right decision.
Set 3 will show you how to motivate sellers to give you what you want.
The 4th step explains in detail how to negotiate with sellers. It is the largest part of the course. It teaches you what to do, and how and when to do it. It also includes specific questions to ask the seller, their likely responses, and how professional salespeople try to persuade you to buy.
Steps 5 and 6 are evaluating the results, and if necessary, taking additional action.
Negotiation is much more than playing hardball on price. If you don't get what you want, why buy at all? If you don't know what things are worth, you may get cheap and miss out on very good deals. If you don't know what motivates you, or how to motivate others, you are unlikely to get what you want in either your business or personal life.
On the other hand, if you put in a little time and effort and follow Negotiation: Buyer Side, 6 Steps to Get What You Want, you will be richly rewarded. I realized the value of money when I started calculating how many hours I needed to work to buy things, based on my after-tax pay rate. How many extra hours would you need to work if you overpay by just a $1,000 on a major purchase? A small investment in time to learn to negotiate effectively could literally save you days, weeks or even months of work. I hope you choose to invest in yourself. Learning to negotiate is one of the few skills where investing a relatively small amount of time and effort can lead to huge rewards. See you in the course.
