Learn Visual Programming in Desmos Graph Calculator Udemy

About the Course

This course includes lessons on using the online graphing calculator called Desmos. Moreover, it will teach you some creative ways to start animating pictures.

It would be nice if the student enrolling in the course is familiar with math terminology, but it is not required to become familiar with the capabilities of the tool. What does help, is a logical process of creating lines and curves into images that consist of functions.

The course has fourteen main lessons, besides the introduction and the conclusion. These are broken up into three sections that progressively go from basic housekeeping concepts, to intermediate functionality and tool manipulations, and to abstract methods that aid in animation creation.

What's included

The Desmos is a free online graphing calculator that allows you to use math manipulations in the Cartesian Plane and beyond. The following course topics makes it easier to see what capabilites the tool has:

  1. Saving and Exporting Your Work
  2. Programming Arithmetic Expressions
  3. Customizing Grid and Calculation Setting
  4. Making a Graph from Data using Regression
  5. Customizing Colors and Styles of Graphs
  6. Programming Basic Functions
  7. Using Built-In Functions and Shortcuts
  8. Graphing Polar Equations
  9. Visualizing Inverse Relationships
  10. Changing values with Sliders
  11. Setting the Domain and Range
  12. Exploring Differential Calculus
  13. Exploring Integral Calculus
  14. Animating Graphs

It will be interesting to see all the ideas for curves in the final animation project, as we will post in the discussion for student of the course to view. There will be a quiz at the end of each section for evaluating how much you retained. Some questions will require you to think abstractly on the various function possibilities. Don't worry, I will include only functions that were mentioned in the course. This course will improve on critical thinking skills and allow Math instructors to provide this tool in their classroom where technology is embraced and incorporated into the curriculum. This is a fun and visual way to learn math concepts as well. So, let's get started!
