Course details
Introduction
This course is designed for learners who are interested in acquiring a recognised qualification in hairdressing. There will be an emphasis on practical work experience in approved hairdressing salons, where learners will have contact with clients and potential employers. Open salon days in college also provide experience of the day to day running of a salon.
Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate with 5 passes or Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent. If you are a mature student these requirements need not apply and applications will be considered based on a proven interest in Hairdressing. Entry may be subject to interview/assessment.

Course Structure
Learners will be expected to attain the highest standards in practical day to day procedures in the hairdressing field. Learners will study and practise all areas of hairdressing including consulting, hair and scalp diagnosing, blow-dry and setting, cutting, colouring, styling and dressing hair for clients, as well as hair science and hair theory. This is an intensive practical course, run over two years, that requires a high level of commitment. You will be required to purchase a uniform and professional work kit.
Career Options | Progression
The holder of a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Hairdressing may progress to further study in the hairdressing field or to employment as a trainee in the industry. Successful completion of the City & Guilds Diploma could lead you to a career as a hair stylist, colour or perm technician, or to work as a sales representative for hairdressing products. In addition, students may progress to further studies in the field.
