Course details

This course is about how you can take your guitar playing to the next level using the approaches and techniques that are common in classical and finger-style playing. This will help you not only know what to play but how to play by shaping and moving your fingers and hands.

This course is taught through video lessons that are accompanied by PDF files of each musical example written in both standard musical notation and guitar tablature. (Note-reading is not required for this course) You’ll make the most progress by practicing on a regular basis, and by making sure that you are good at each technique before moving on. The course is designed so that each lesson can stand alone as an individual lesson, but the lessons are ordered in a logical way that moves from one concept to the next logical concept.

The course includes videos that show both hands close-up in a variety of angles, to help make the techniques and concepts as clear as possible. There are over four and a half hours of video lessons in the course, and the last part of the course shows you how to play three favorite classical guitar pieces. You’ll be successful playing these pieces if you put in the time to practice and understand all of the techniques that are presented earlier on in the course.

The amount of time that it will take to complete the course will vary from person to person, and will depend on how much time you spend practicing and asking questions. It would be good to allow at least a few weeks to process everything that’s in the course, and it’s totally ok if it takes even longer than that. That’s the value of this course; the same information would likely take months to cover in private guitar lessons. As someone who teaches private lessons, I know the high value of working with a teacher so this course can serve as an additional resource for someone who is taking lessons, or a guide for those learning on their own. In this course you’ll have the benefit of learning how to actually use your fingers and hands to make music on the guitar. This course addresses the issues and technical questions that I often get in lessons.

You’ll also benefit by having access to e-mail support, and the ability to send me links to video or audio recordings of your playing to get feedback and answers to any questions to ensure that you succeed in your guitar studies.
