Course details

You will create an easy to access resource for tricky situations. You will learn why you respond to, for example,  stress and anxiety the way you do. You will learn how to develop more resilient and helpful tools and strategies.

Take this course to build resilience, improve your confidence, create your own inner coach and develop more compassionate self-talk.

The course is made up of 5 sections. First, we explore your current behaviours and identify areas to work with. Then we look at how your body responds to your thoughts and feelings and how little changes in the body can make a big difference. Each training video has an exercise video with a template for you to experiment with what you are learning. Most students find it helpful to download the exercise templates before watching the lectures in each section.  This gives a helpful reference to guide you through and help you keep track of what you are learning.

At the end of each section there is an action plan.  Students have recommended that you print your action plan, stick it on your fridge, create flashcards to carry around as this makes it easy to refer to when you're out and about.  Finally there is a quiz to help you solidify and apply what you've learnt.  Most students find it helpful but if it's not your thing, that's absolutely fine. This is course is designed to help you.  Make it work for you.

Give yourself a bit of time to get familiar with the Udemy platform, how to download the documents and move from one video to the next.  If the video freezes, you may need to refresh your browser. If you have any issues with the videos, your student account or anything else related to the technology, get in touch with support@udemy.com. For anything else post questions and comments on the discussion board.

Take the course at your own pace, you can pause videos and come back to them as many times as you like.  Aim to do at least a training video and an exercise a week. We expect that to take an hour in total. The key is to engage regularly, whatever your speed. You can then revisit course resources and lectures whenever you need.

The Helpful Clinic is a social venture.  Our mission is to Improve Health and Wellbeing through Increased Health and Emotional Literacy.  To this aim we have built an Honesty Bridge from our website to the course which enables us to give free access to those who genuinely can't afford it.  You can find the Honesty Bridge on our website in the First Aid Kit for Feelings section.  This will take you across the Honesty Bridge where you will also be invited to participate in the research project aligned with this course.

The research results will help us spread the word and highlight how important it is to have choice about our responses to ourselves and others, to have a sense of control of our feelings and to have a sense of compassion for ourselves, that it's actually ok to be kind to ourselves.
