On this fashion history course you will discover the key moments in fashion history and theory over 200 years from the French Revolution through to the 1990s. Students will each receive a copy of Amber's first book, Amber Jane Butchart's Fashion Miscellany: An Elegant Collection of Stories, Quotations, Tips & Trivia from the World of Style, as part of the course.The course includes:
- The 19th-century corseted hourglass figure to the birth of haute couture
- The modernist look of the flapper to 1930s Hollywood-inspired bias-cut glamour
- Austere 1940s fashion history and the post-war romance of Dior's New Look
- The explosion of youth culture and the legacy of street style
- Exploration of the cyclical nature of styles in culture and fashion history
- Illustrated lectures and optional visits to exhibitions and museum collections
- Extravagant 18th century court fashions and the politics of clothing during the Revolution
