Because of the Institute's management interest to keep accompanied by the  modern scientific updates and the increased  demand for higher academic and professional certificates, and in the light of the declined number of nominees for the Intermediate University Diploma Program  as a result of the adoption of the Bachelor Degree qualification as a minimum requirement for employees recruitment in most of the organizations of the banking and financial system and institutions under the Institute's academic umbrella in comparison with these numbers previously therefore their employees looks to obtain higher academic degrees. The Institutes Board of Directors issued the resolution No. (802) dated 9/4/2007 which includes halting the admission in the Intermediate University Diploma Program in the both specializations the Banking and Financial Studies and Islamic Banking and Financial Studies for (5) years from the beginning of the academic year 2007/2008 and guaranteed the completion of graduation requirements for the rest students. Also, halting the admission have been recently extended for (3) years from the academic year 2012/2013.

The Intermediate University Diploma Program in Banking and Financial Sciences includes two basic specializations: Diploma in Banking and Financial Studies and Diploma in Islamic Banking and   Financial   Studies. The objective of the Diploma Program in the two specializations is to develop the abilities and capabilities of employees in the Jordanian banking and financial sector to achieve excellence and provide them with a sound academic base in financial and banking studies in both ordinary and Islamic specializations. In addition to the academic emphasis, this program aims at providing students with the practical and applied aspects of these specializations and the analysis of cases studies related to the problems facing the banking and financial sector.

Admission Requirements

  1. The applicant should be an employee working in a bank , a financial organization, a specialized credit institutions, or in any public organization included within the institute's academic umbrella.
  2. The applicant should have General Secondary Education Certificate or equivalent as minimum requirement .
  3. The applicant should have at least two years experience in the financial and banking field .
  4. The applicant should be officially nominated by his / her institution , and will be chosen after successfully completing the admission exam and the personal interview .

Study System

The duration of study for getting Diploma Degree in Banking and Financial Studies or a Diploma Degree in Islamic Banking and Financial Studies is two academic years in full time attendance covering five terms. The duration of each term is sixteen weeks, in the afternoon period and the summer term extends to eight weeks.

Graduation Requirements

The graduation requirements of the Diploma Program in Banking and Financial Sciences (Ordinary and Islamic) are as follows :

  1. Completion of (69) credit hours for both the Diploma in Banking and Financial Studies or the Diploma in Islamic Banking and Financial Studies.
  2. Passing successfully the required courses according to the Accredited study plan.
  3. Accumulating a grade point average (60%) at least .

Study Plan

The study plan of the Diploma Program in both specializations Ordinary and Islamic includes  various theoretical and applied subjects in the accredited curriculum which provide students by a strong and integrated background in the field of banking and financial studies . The students are also provided by the appropriate analytical tools which enable them to link theoretical concepts with practice. The study plan requirements for both specializations are distributed as follows:

About Institute of Banking Studies

The Central Bank of Jordan began in 1965 to study the necessary means of setting up a team for theoretical and practical training aimed at promoting human cadres of the banking and financial sector and study its employees needs and satisfy their desires to advance their scientific and practical abilities . These efforts culminated in the creation of the Institute of Banking Studies in accordance with Article (37) Paragraph (d) of the Central Bank of Jordan Law and in accordance with the Institute,s Articles of Association No. (69) issued on 1970. The Institute   was   officially   inaugurated on   October 9, 1971 and was housed then at the Central Bank,s premises.

In the early 1990,s , the  Institute  witnessed a new stage ; the construction of the Institute,s permanent   headquarter   in  Tla,a  Al  Ali ,  a suburb of the capital  Amman . The complex was constructed on an eight dunums plot of land and comprised of administration units, academic and training activities halls, library, laboratories, cafeteria, health clinic and a multipurpose hall. Also , the Institute has two branches, one in Irbid and the other in Aqaba.  The purpose of  these  branches is to widen the distribution of academic and training activities conducted  by the Institute to cover the various regions of the Kingdom.
