Arabic for non-native speakers (Starter)

The course covers grammar, reading and writing practice and gives insight into the culture of the region. Students will learn the basics of the language and be able to build up enough knowledge to read and write at a basic level. Given the subtle differences between eastern and western cultures, it is beneficial to the students to be aware of such differences which are embedded in the language.

Target Audience

The Arabic language courses are designed for non-native speakers who need to learn Arabic to meet their social and communication requirements.

What will I learn?

Topics & Vocabulary:

  • Basic Greetings and introductions
  • Countries/Asking "Where you are from?"
  • Describing things
  • Ordering drinks and snacks
  • Describing where things are

Grammar:

  • Plurals
  • Using adjectives
  • Feminine and masculine usage

Cultural content:

Introduction to Arabic culture in relation to:

  • People at home and in public places
  • Everyday polite language, everyday religious expressions
  • Arabic as an international language and dialect
  • Food and culture
  • Arabic Hospitality

Skills Work:

  • The Arabic alphabet, reading and writing
  • Special emphasis on unfamiliar sounds, weak and strong, short and long sounds
  • Joining letters to make up words and phrases

Teaching Methods and Techniques

We consider our methods of teaching superior to most language schools as a result of our extensive experience and number of years working with students from other cultures and nations. A variety of techniques are applied when dealing with the various activities of learning the language. These techniques include individual tasks, pair work, group work, role play, songs, speeches, conversations, etc.Utilization of these techniques intends to develop the learners' strategies of practice though repetition, memorization (storage and retrieval), problem solving and monitoring (observing how a message is received and interpreted).
