Overview
Asbestos has been used for decades as an inexpensive industrial material with properties such as high tensile strength, heat resistance, incombustibility and resistance to chemical attack. It has been known for more than 50 years that exposure to asbestos can cause serious diseases including cancer and asbestosis. Use of asbestos in now banned in most countries but it is still produced and used in some countries in Asia.
Objectives
This course enhances the knowledge of occupational hygiene practice in relation to fibrous dusts. Successful completion of this module will benefit those working in asbestos consultancy as well as in mainstream occupational hygiene, giving an understanding of the health risks associated with asbestos and other fibres as well as the means of evaluation and control.

Workplace safety and health professionals, air quality monitoring professionals, hygienists and those in similar professions.

Continual Professional Development
For Singapore's WSHO: 40 CPD
Course Assessment
Attendees are assessed with a 40-short answer open-book written examination with an allowed time of 120 minutes at the conclusion of the course.
Certification
This course is an accredited course by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) as an elective module for the International Occupational Hygiene Certificate.
Pre-requisite and Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN)
Whilst there is no pre-requisite for this course, it is recommended that attendee is certified with the Fundamentals of Occupational Hygiene (W201) certification. Ideally, a WPLN Level 5 would be recommended to ensure quality comprehension of the subject matter.
